Spring VON is heating up
Spring VON is generating a buzz already as I get calls offering last minute speakers, speaker disputes, moderators, and of course favors.
I am also again getting asked about the speaking proposals that were not accepted.
For the team we are not focused this week on the near term.
We are currently finishing the final touches of VON Europe and the Wireless Internet event at CTIA. And starting the invites for the SIP Summit @ Supercomm and VON Australia.

The Telecom Policy Summit at VON Europe
The topics for our The EU Telecom Policy Summit include:
Overview of the World Regulatory,
The European Commission is building a structure for new telecom regulation. The EU’s structure it is not the only model worldwide. This panel looks at the changing regulatory environment with the goal of understanding what impact they have on Internet based Telephony.
- Is Telecom service using dial tone outside the EU using member state numbers part of EU’s regime?
- What work is being done to harmonize the different regulatory viewpoints?
Why I want to be a PATS?
Public Access Telephone Service is being defined as a replacement solution for existing services offered by traditional players. These services have regulatory privileges and responsibilities that treat it as a peer to existing customer base.
- Will traditional carriers migrate their customer base to PATS services?
- What impact does this have on network design and do incumbents have an unfair advantage?
Why I want to be an ECS?
An Electronic Communication Service is thought of by many people as a leaky closed network of IP Communications. For many people this sounds like a lesser service, but the opportunity may be to expand communications beyond traditional telecommunications.
- Are telecom companies seeing this an opportunity to discover new markets?
- Are new entrants worried about being marginalized with ECS being a stigma about their service quality?
Law Enforcement and Emergency Services for VoIP.
Supporting services that have traditionally been provided by the incumbent carrier in a more competitive world is going to require a new architecture for the delivery of these services. This panel discusses the regulatory requirements and the impact of these requirements on carrier services.
- Are existing systems designed to enable competitive access?
- When do shared resources represent a logical alternative?
